The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag of the United States. Included in these rules is guidance regarding the proper disposal of U.S. flags which are unfit for display. The preferred method for disposal (known as retirement) is burning.

A formal retirement ceremony will take place at CCFD Station 52 starting at 3:30 p.m. on Flag Day, Friday, June 14, 2024. Flag Day is observed on June 14 to honor and commemorate the adoption of the American flag which occurred on this day in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress.

The 卡森城 消防部门 (CCFD), in concert with the 卡森城 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), identified a need for a durable and easily accessible box where community members could dispose of their worn or tattered U.S. flags to ensure that the flags would be disposed of in a respectful manner.

Working with members of our community, a box has been obtained and placed in front of the 卡森城 消防部门 headquarters, 位于 777 S Stewart St, 卡森城 NV. U.S. flags can be placed in the box for disposal at any time.
